Great idea for a thread! I got into Linux certifications using videos from Andrew Mallet (the Urban Penguin):

He's a great person for developing free videos that walk you through the LPIC-1 objectives with hands-on and excellent explanations. I do recommend having some coffee nearby when going through the videos because he has a very soft voice that can put you to sleep.

This guy does a lot of interviews with software engineers and they provide a lot of insight into another facet of IT that we really don't touch here:

Additionally, he divides the categories of his videos into specific topics: career development, reality vs expectations, and coding bootcamp (where I got into freecodecamp to learn HTML and CSS).

Professor Messer on the hand helped build my interest in IT and make it a career!

Routehub is my favorite so far. His Q&A's are incredibly valuable.

Eli is boring, because he just rambles on and on to make a single point. I liked his classes, and honestly I think he should have went to work for CBT Nuggets if he wasn't making enough money doing the classes on you tube.

I actually like the first guy, I think he's out of Orlando. He speaks and mentors from a Manager's perspective.
The other guy who sounds like Seth Rogan is great too from a tech's perspective. He does ramble here and there buy is great for noobs.

Well... A little context. Eli owns a computer repair shop and runs a popular youtube channel. Maybe from his perspective he really feels like that or he "talks to" lots of people in the industry (i.e. other frustrated people who watch his YT) but there's way too many success stories on this forum and others where people are getting their foot in the door for support jobs and moving past them. And yes, certifications tend to help.

I guess my biggest gripe with most general IT channels like that is that it's so micro-focused on that one person's experience or opinion that it tends to take away from their credibility if you have a different experience or know them to be wrong. It's not to say that Eli doesn't have good videos or good points but honestly, I cringe a little when I hear his "state of the IT field" BS.

Completely agree. It wasn't so much that I wanted to keep my head in the sand and ignore what he's saying because I don't like his opinion, but more that it's not very valid for most of the corporate world right now.
