Hey Everyone
I'm looking to set up my list of 2018 certification objectives and have a question. I'm a long time System Engineer who has done a lot of querying on Server 2008-2012 but have not ever taken the certification exams. Would there be any reason why I should to 70-461 at this point instead of studying for 70-761?

I'm just looking to validate my SQL knowledge at this point and it is no longer part of my current day-to-day.

I've been working with SQL Server since 7.0 and the one thing that doesn't change that radically is T-SQL. You will be able to use what you learn in 2016 with 2014 and 2012. While I'm studying for the 70-462 now, I'm going to go straight to the 70-761 rather than the 461.

I am in a similar situation.
I want to go 70-461 or 70-761.
Currently I am reading:
- Training Kit (Exam 70-461) Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (MCSA)
- Microsoft SQL Server 2012 TSQL Fundamentals
I am currently using SQL Server 2014 SP2.
When I will move smoothly in T-SQL, I will decide between 70-461 or 70-761.

I had an old MCSE+I and MCDBA for 2000 and 2005, just the MCITP for 2008. I'm now preparing for a return to work and am preparing by studying for the 461. Then will move on to the BI cert. Using Measureup -- which is pretty good since I can get it for practically free when bundled. Transcender is an excellent exam preparation source. Don't think you have much of a chance passing the test without some prep. Pay the little extra for the test prep and spend the time in study. I'm good at self study and passed the CPA exam without an Accounting Degree.
