Hello guys, I just finished getting my A+ and N+ and I was able to land a job within a week at Cablevision working as a Tier 2 Network Tech support. Pay is $21 an hour and it's my first job in IT and start of a new career.
I would like some advice on how-to progress from here and not get stuck in the same job forever.
My goal is to make $100k within 3-5yrs and work as a Systems admin/engineer.
I'm going to return to college and finish my Associate in Computer Engineering, I think it will help to have a degree on my resume along with the certs.
So what should my next moves be? I was thinking about working on my MSCA Server 2012 while working in this job. I figure I can have one year work experience, my associates in Computer Engineering and a MSCA Server 2012 certification and then start looking for a Systems admin job.
Any advice? Thanks in advance

kalimuscle Member Posts: 100My advice is try and learn and grow as much as you can.
Also contribute to the company and dont be one of those job hoppers who use up the company and leave in a year time.
You have a good goal set
Its good to have goals and ambition
But
Rather than looking at i want to make blah blah in 3 -5 years look and what you need to have and do in order to be worth that amount and also what you can offer the employer so someone would pay you that much.live, learn, grow, fail, rebuild and repeat until your heartbeat stops ! -

You should probabbly take that down before the SPAMBOTS see it.
Also, click on ANYBODY's name on this page; you will get the popup to send a "private message".... -
kalimuscle Member Posts: 100You should write your email address in a picture on MS Paint (.jpg) format and attach it into this post.
That way the spam bots will be very less likely to pick up your email address.live, learn, grow, fail, rebuild and repeat until your heartbeat stops ! -

I know it's not all about money and the reason I even switched to IT was because I love computers and technology. It's always been a dream of mine to work in this field.
The more I read and see videos about system admin the more I'm certain that's the path I want to take.
I'm excited for this new career and I just want to gather as much info i can so I can make the right and smart choices.Bachelor of Science in IT:Security - Western Governors University
