FaceTime Interview today

I finally got a chance at commencing my IT career. I have my first of two interviews today via FaceTime with an NPO in another state that I am trying to relocate to. The position is for a Tech Specialist I, and based off of the job description, appears to be an all-in-one support role with end-user support, network/server admin, hardware/software implementation, etc. I'm very excited, because a position like this seems like it would create many opportunities for learning hands-on and gaining experience, instead of just sitting at a desk answering calls. I've been searching the forum and reading up on other members experiences with their interviews, practicing responses, etc. I'm trying not to get too nervous and overwhelmed, but it's a little tough since this is my first interview for an IT position. However, I keep telling myself they've read my resume, transcripts, and are aware of my little IT experience, they must have liked something about me. I've had great success in all past interviews and think this one will go smoothly as well, hopefully. If this one is successful and select me for the second round, I'll have to make a trip for an in-person interview.

Thanks for all the great prep material and advice on the forum.

Wish me luck.

As hard as it is, just relax and be yourself. As you said, they've seen your resume and know your situation. Show enthusiasm about learning.

    Good luck!

My biggest thing in interviews as well as interviewing people, is make sure you have questions for them. The idea that you are evaluating them as much as they evaluate you comes across very well. It shows awareness and a desire to find a proper fit. :) Good luck!

Thanks Phalanx. I agree, and that's something I regret not doing in some past interviews. To me, a possible candidate with questions(the right ones) shows a lot of interest and initiative. I have some questions set aside for them today.

    Thank you as well networker

I agree with asking them questions. Nothing impresses a company more than showing not just an interest in the company but an interest in the future of the company. I once received a job offer and the guy I interviewed with told me that he selected me because I asked a lot of questions. I try to make it more of a conversation than a Q&A. When I ask a question, depending on their response I like to follow up with a brief discussion about it and try to find a way to segue into my next question. I feel it makes more of an impression than just standard Q&A.

The interview went well. Basic questions that were aimed more towards personality then anything else. I definitely over-thought the whole thing. I feel I answered everything adequately and showed a lot of interest in the organization and the position.

The only complaint I have is their lack of enthusiasm for the situation. It really kills the vibe for me. When a candidate enters/appears and you can see the excitement in their face, but the interviewers have expressions as if they are being forced to do this and just want to get it over with. Maybe it was because it was a FaceTime interview, rather than in person.

I'm sure they've been conducting interviews all day, and I understand it can be mundane after a while. I've had some great and very interactive interviews with employers that really helped with the whole situation and alleviated any pressure, awkwardness, or anxiety.

However, I'll know by the end of the week if I will get a 2nd interview. Perhaps a face-to-face interview will be more exciting. Fingers crossed.

Remember, interviews are a two-way street. You are interviewing them as much as they interview you. You are looking for a 'good fit' for you, otherwise you could just take a job that pays well but you are miserable in. :)

I despise when interviewers have that 'look' of too many interviews. One time, during an interview, one person on the panel kept getting up and leaving the room She would dramatically sigh and proclaim that she was too busy to interview. UGH. schedule like 2 a day or something. Don't make the interviewee feel like they just are just a number.

I agree with that 100% I hate when people do that crap.
