Just screwed up one interview

Found a service desk role which will have exposure to server and Citrix etc. Didn't expect too much until I failed. The second simulation question was a disaster. The interviewer just stopped and started to talk with me about here and there. I'm surprised we talked so long about crap. Though I expressed my willingness to learn but probably I won't get it. It just sucks when you fail. Should focus more.

The biggest thing is to not get discouraged and to stay focused on your goals. I know its much easier said than done, but it helps. You'll look back on your bombed interview and laugh. For now, stay focused and prep yourself for the next interview.

TechGromit Member Posts: 2,156 ■■■■■■■■■□Been there, Got a Job interview at the FAA for a Federal Employee job, just getting a chance to interview is next to impossible. Anyway, the job was for something called Nextgen, which is the initiative to modernize the air traffic system. I prepared for the interview brushing up on all networking knowledge I had. But when it came time for the interview, they were only interested in my knowledge / experience with POTS lines, serial communications and telephone wiring. They were using the nextgen funding to hire to support antiquated systems. While I did have some experience in this area, I wasn't prepared for the kinds of questions they were asking me and I bombed the interview. If I had known before the interview what they were really looking for, I think I could have done much better.Still searching for the corner in a round room.

georgios Member Posts: 48 ■■□□□□□□□□Thank you guys. you are always awesome. And Techgromit I had exactly the same situation. Things they asked I had no idea at all. How am I supposed to know what to ask if I don't know what tools and access I have. It's an internal Helpdesk btw. Anyway, I'll keep learning and hang out with you guys on here. Cheers.

ITSec14 Member Posts: 398 ■■■□□□□□□□I know the feeling! I once interviewed for what I thought was an IT support role (hardware/basic networking type stuff) and got blasted with questions about SQL and developing what I consider pretty advanced powershell scripts. I felt like a doofus since I was still finishing school at night and didn't have much experience.
I look back and laugh on it now and you will too with your experience. Don't let it get to you. -
Moldygr33nb3an Member Posts: 241I interviewed for what I thought was a CAC/PKI admin. Turned out to be a engineering position for PKI. I was being interviewed by 3 lead PKI/PKE engineers. Totally bombed the interview.
I didn't feel bad, just stupid lol.
I walked away feeling relieved because I knew I was way out of my element. One of the engineers even asked:
"I don't mean to be rude... and don't take offense... But what did you think this job was?"
LOL.
