The default gateway
eng_ahmedas
Hi All
I wish u r all fine.I am confusing about something and i wish u could help me solve it. yesterday day i was connecting a network consist of 3 cisco routers and i was connecting a pc to one of the ethernet interface of one of them. i give the pc ip add = 192.168.1.2 & mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway was the ip of ethernet interface it was connected to which was 192.168.1.1.
In PC, we i set te default gateway to address= 1.1.1.1 , it works well and can foword packets outside the network 192.168.1.0 although i didn't use address 1.1.1.1 in my network
In PC , we i delete entry of gateway , it couldnt forword any packet outside network 192.168.1.0
Can anyone has any explantions ????
Thanks in advance

I would imagine this is due to proxy arp being enabled on the eth interface.Disable proxy arp on the eth int are retest.Do a google search for proxy arp and read up!

yeah he is right. It might be due to prpxy ARP but generally proxy ARP is used in the scenario where there we dont add any default gateway.however it can be the scenario u er using may be having 1.1.1.0 subnet .however try to disable proxy arp .your problem will be solve. abt prosy arp visit page
