Hi all,

This is my first post on here after many months of reading all the success stories!

I passed my Network+ today, scored 759 which isn't that great but a pass is a pass! Thank you to everyone on here who have given their advice to the other members as it helped me tremendously!

My study resources (all highly recommended) were:

Sybex Deluxe Study Guide by Todd Lammle - this was my go to resource, really helped me understand, in detail, anything I was unsure of and I really recommend it for anyone struggling with subnetting. Obviously can't compare this to the Mike Meyers or similar books as I didn't use them but wouldn't put anybody off buying this.

Professor Messer - God bless Mr. Messer, free videos online in exam objective order. Coupled with Todd Lammle book put in a very good positon to pass!

Darril Gibson App - Very good app, lots of questions at a good quality with explanations for every right and wrong answers. Spilt in to the five exam sections. Flashcards and able to bookmark.

Examcompass exams - lots of questions, helped me build a foundational knowledge but not close to exam quality.

What I wanted to ask was what would you guys/gals recommend as a next qualification step?? I have no experience working in IT, completed my Comptia A+ in January and now my Network+.

Want to work towards a Microsoft qualification as I think it would be look more attractive to potential employers as opposed to Security+. Looking to start in any help desk/1st line/junior support role.

I'm unsure wether I should start with MTA or MCSA and if so which exams. Or any other qualifications/pathways that I haven't mentioned.

    Congrats on the pass. My advice to you right now is focus on your resume/interviewing skills and get your foot in the door.

    Once you gain a bit of experience, then figure out the your career path and go for MCSA, CCNA etc

    Try to get a desktop support position if possible, it's much better than being stuck in help desk for the first year or two. It may be a little hard with no experience, but it's not impossible if you can interview well and sell yourself. After you land a job, I second the CCNA since you've already got the N+. Good luck!

    Desktop support is a help desk role!!!

    not really, help desk is more of answering phone calls 24/7 and doing everything remotely. Desktop support you actually visit the end user and resolve their issue.

    Very true unless a company creates a hybrid role where you do both. ;)

    Thank you for all the kind words people icon_smile.gif will definitely keep applying to try get my foot in the door. I was thinking once I passed this exam I would give myself a month off and then back into studying for another qualification. Having read the comments on here though I think I'll hold on for the time being and concentrate on job hunting.

    Thanks icon_smile.gif I studied for around 5 months (started in March) but it was only the last month or so where I really focused all my energy into it and tried to hammer home all the objectives!

    Btw one resource I forgot to mention was he Pearson Labs/Simulations. Definitely worth it for the price (paid £35 GBP) really helps for anyone not too confident with the Command Line and also has a nice amount of drag and drop exercises in there!

    Getting a 1st line position in the UK shouldn't be a problem. It's an entry level job and most companies are looking to take people on and train them.

    However I highly recommend to apply for desktop support/IT technician roles.

    Congrats! Don't take too much time off - it's easier to keep going when you have momentum.
    Give a hacker an exploit, and they will have access for a day, BUT teach them to phish, and they will have access for the rest of their lives!

    Congrats on your pass!! i go take mine in two days!

    I have already been working in a senior IT role - I have an AAS in IT and computer forensics/network security. I highly recommend going for more than just a help desk with your A+ and Net+. A lot of people in help desk roles (from what i KNOW...not that it always applies) typically has just an A+, so I think you can market yourself better than that. Maybe a tier 2 role. Just sell yourself and your knowledge. Be confident. You got it just like you took out this exam! Wait until you get to a company before you decide on your next cert. No point in doing MS certs if you don't use MS. Or do vendor neutral.

    One good place to look, that seems unlikely, for a good career is in schools :) After military service, never really considered a school district, but I have happily been at a private HS now for almost 3 years and can't imagine myself leaving for QUITE a while (at least 5 more years if not more). Gotta get my Net+ and Server+ to get promoted to the Senior IT position so, that is my focus currently.
