I've been meaning to upgrade the theme of my personal wordpress site and wondered if anyone has a reliable place for great themes (either free or premium)

I would recommend Themeforest as well, they have Avada and X Theme.
Avada and X Theme are great at $60 and $59 per one site license.
The other big one other than Themeforest is Elegant Themes.

Check out Divi, it's their most popular from https://www.elegantthemes.com/
$89/year license or a lifetime license for $249 (either one has unlimited websites use)
Note: They have 87 themes all included in that one fee of $89/yr, it allows you to create unlimited websites.

I use Templatic for the horse events website I run. They seem to specialize in directory-type themes but they have some other options as well. I love their support! I use Eventum. https://templatic.com/wordpress-themes/
