Just another update to people: This change will not impact now. It will be effective tentatively in the mid of January, 2018 and all the IT academies will be communicated about the change.

Since, you have already enrolled for the ICM v6 course, you can go ahead and complete the course. This will be considered for VCP6-DCV certification. However, please make sure that you take the correct Exam. Any candidate who completes courses in IT academy must pass the PSE version of VCP6-DCV exam, Exam Code will be 2V0-621PSE.
@majorpayne, is this new rule applied (or will be applied) to a course or to an exam. What I'm trying to ask is, after I finish my course (last date 3 Dec 2017) should I take exam before mid Jan 2018 otherwise new rules will be applied to me OR as long as my course finishes before mid Jan 2018 then new rule is not applied to me and I will be able to take 2v0-620PSE after the new rule is issued?

The PSE is the same exam for special Students and partners. (There is probably some differences, but the correct exam is usually the non-PSE unless specified.

    Hi Stanly,

You mean that all courses started from next year January might be not certified as VMWare classes?!

G'Day mate. Do you know by chance how many questions on this version of exam and if questions are the same as on regular 2V0-621 exam?

As I stated, those of you currently enrolled in our class will be OK. When you pass you will be sent instructions on how to obtain & use your PSE voucher.

    Hi Stanly CC,

Question: I' nearly done with fall ICM course that according to the curriculum is finished on 3 December. I am just wondering if I will be eligible for VCP6-DCV certification (I mean if my VCP6-DCV will be valid if I pass it), and if YES then what version I should take? VCP6-DCV or some VCP6-DCV PSE which I have no idea what is it?

    Thanks.

    From VMware:

    Important Announcement
    Certification Updates for 2018
    VMware IT Academies only

VMware VCP-DCV Certification Information for IT Academy Students
Attending Courses after 1 January 2018

For candidates interested in becoming certified as a VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV, there are two options to choose from. Candidates must complete all steps from either Option A or Option B in order to receive their credential.

    Option A:
Commercial Training Path (commercial courses appear in MyLearn / Certification Manager)

Step 1) Complete a qualifying certification course either directly from VMware or from a VATC (VMware Authorized Training Center)*
    Step 2) Pass the vSphere 6.x Foundations commercial exam (2V0- -602 [v6.5] or 2V0-620 [v6.0])
Step 3) Pass the VCP 6.x - Data Center Virtualization commercial exam (2V0-622 [v6.5] or 2V0-621[v6])

*See full requirement details on our main VCP6-DCV / VCP6.5-DCV certification page. Be sure to select the path that best fits your qualifications.

    Option B:
IT Academy Path (IT Academy courses do not appear in MyLearn / Certification Manager. IT Academy students use a special academic (‘PSE’) exam voucher for the VCP-DCV exam to provide qualifying training course credit. Students must complete the VCP6.x-DCVPSE exam using the voucher provided by the Academy instructor)

Step 1) Take vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage and/or vSphere Optimize and Scale course at an IT Academy**
Step 2) Pass the vSphere 6.x Foundations exam (2V0- -602 [v6.5] or 2V0-620 [v6]). Note: there is no special academic (‘PSE’) exam voucher for the vSphere 6.x Foundations exam.
Step 3) Pass VCP 6.x - Data Center Virtualization PSE exam (2V0-622 PSE [v6.5] or 2V0-621 PSE [v6]) using the special academic exam voucher provided to the student by the IT Academy instructor

**Academy course attendance will not appear in MyLearn / Cert Manager. The vSphere: ICM course alone does not qualify as fulfilling the training course requirement on the IT Academy path. Thus, the student must register for and pass the special academic PSE version exam (listed under “PSE Exams” section on the Pearson “Select Exam” registration page) in order to receive qualifying course credit required for VCP-DCV certification.

    Hi scott28tt,

If this information is not closed could you please explain what the difference between 2v0-621 and 2v0621PSE exams?

  • scott28ttscott28tt Member Posts: 686 ■■■■■□□□□□
The answer is in the post from Stanly ^^^

VMware and VATC students take the regular exam, VITA students take the PSE exam - that’s how VMware know that a VITA student has completed their training. Everything else about the exams is the same.

I meant if number of questions or questions themselves are different or it its just the exam code that is different?

Scott has answered that. The PSE just tells VMware that you took this exam because you have completed training from a particular VITA provider and they can then use that to know to check your training completion to be able to award you the VCP (remember, you need to have the training verified to obtain the VCP at the end)

I've done the Stanly course 3 years ago, they did a good job explaining the process to scheduling your exam at the end of the course, they will tell you which one to select, which by STANLY_CC's post, that would be the PSE.

Thank you everyone for your input on this. Glad it's all been clarified.

On one of my VMware channels, we have had confirmation from Karl Childs regarding moving forward: It is different to what VMware Education has been saying, but he does mention the training academy who originally posted was incorrect.

this is incorrect; there will be no changes to the training requirement. ICM will work just fine, although if someone happens to take the O&S class, it will also count. But two classes are not required, and the ICM still will count.

I think it came from a posting by an Academy organization - I saw that post and it wasn’t quite accurate or worded correctly - the Academy Manager is working to update that notice with that school.

    Thanks,
    Karl

[edit] - Just read the link in the first post again. They have changed the wording to say that if you take either course, you must choose the PSE exam and use the voucher code from the academy to be able to obtain certification (Obviously once passed the exam)

The vSphere 6x Foundation Exam: Is this one a kind of VCA-DCV? May I forget it and go direct for VCP-DCV cert?
As VMWare pointed out for a newbie wanting to get the VCP, one have to obtain a VCA-DCV first (optional) and then VCP-DCV in the progress.

No - vSphere Foundations is a "core" exam, for all 4 of the VCPs. There is a 6.0 version of the exam, and a 6.5 version:

    6.0 Foundations = https://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=64179&ui=www_cert
    6.5 Foundations = https://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=99164&ui=www_cert

There has never been a need to be a VCA before working on a VCP.

Foundations covers the basics - e.g. Installing ESXi, Installing vCenter, Datastores, VMkernels. etc.

When you complete, you have the 4 Silos to choose from.

    DCV covers vSphere in depth
    NV cover NSX
    CMA - Cloud and Automation
DTA - End User Computing (So essentially Horizon)

But as all of those require vSphere to have a basic setup with VMkerenels and Datastores ,etc to work, then this is covered by Foundations.

I already register for Stanly Community Collage -

Step 1) Take vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage and/or vSphere Optimize and Scale course at an IT Academy**
    Done

Step 2) Pass the vSphere 6.x Foundations exam (2V0- -602 [v6.5] or 2V0-620 [v6]). Note: there is no special academic (‘PSE’) exam voucher for the vSphere 6.x Foundations exam.

Mean i have the option to choose
    (2V0- -602 [v6.5] or 2V0-620 [v6]) ??

Step 3) Pass VCP 6.x - Data Center Virtualization PSE’ exam (2V0-622 PSE [v6.5] or 2V0-621 PSE [v6]) using the special academic exam voucher provided to the student by the IT Academy instructor

    Just confused:
CCC&TI VMware IT Academy Certification Requirements
In Option B, in first step:
Step 1) Take vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage and/or vSphere Optimize and Scale course at an IT Academy**
    In **
The vSphere: ICM course alone does not qualify as fulfilling the training course requirement on the IT Academy path.

How to understand: ICM course not enough or enough?
  • STANLY_CCSTANLY_CC Member Posts: 346 ■■■■□□□□□□
As of right now and regarding VMware IT Academies, if you take and pass the ICM course you will receive a (PSE) voucher for the un-proctored VCA & the proctored VCP exams. Once you pass both you will be a certified VCP. However, this will change July 2018. Please see the other thread on this site regarding the upcoming changes that VMware is initiating.

The un-proctored vSphere Foundations exam, rather than the VCA exam?
