Got the call earlier in the week to interview for a Detective position within my agency. Currently I'm an Investigator the difference being I am unarmed. I've been with my agency for just about a year now and looking at a January or July Academy. I was in Federal law enforcement sometime ago and I've been preparing for the academy for almost a year. I'll let everyone know how it goes!

Great! Since I work there I found out the panel all voted yes for me to move on in the process. One more panel interview (really just a formality at this point) and then onto the psych and medical. July 2018 academy so nice and hot for running.

so does this mean you're out of IT then?

codeman6669 - yup I do mobile phone forensics (plus some other technical related stuff)

TheNewITGuy - I still work with tech everyday, but in an investigative capacity. We do have some servers, but the IT team handles those for the most part. I do lend them a hand from time to time, but 98% of my job is performing investigations.

Thanks all! I'm a good marksmen so not too worried about being armed.

Congrats! Personally I always felt there was something comforting about having the heft of a sidearm immediately to your right :)

When I carried years ago, being younger, I was excited about it. Nowadays, I seem to get more out of people when they don't see a weapon. The climate has changed a bit so the lower key I am the better for everyone. Obviously on warrant days it is what it is, but the novelty of carrying wears off pretty quick.
