Rollercoaster of a day...

bpennbpenn Member Posts: 499
At 930 AM I got a call from my boss that I was being laid off (govt contractor) for 2 months with a chance of up to 8 months. We were just about to close on a brand new house we built, too.

Apply for jobs immediately following the call and get an OFFER LETTER within 5 hours, making $5k more than I was.

I don't even know if today is real but I have all these emotions running.

Point of this post, make SURE your resume is always current. I wasted zero time because my resume was ready to go and began tailoring it to specific listings.

Stay ready and you don't have to get ready.

I've done government contracting for over 5 years now. I've had 1 experience in line with what you went through (view my started posts from back in the day), but have been fortunate enough to have never missed a day without pay coming in.

Lol, I can't imagine going into work one day, expecting nice normal day. And then a few hours later working for a different company and getting a raise.

Most likely not, you probably was seriously undervalued and underpaid at your former job, that explains the speed of getting a new offer and the bump in pay.

My previous job title was Systems Administrator but my job role was in design and architecture. We were designing a virtual environment to support 400 users across 7 states. It was a challenging role, no doubt, but I wasn't paid quite enough for what I was actually doing.

The new job title is Senior Systems Engineer and it will be continuing development of a VMware VDI network. Part of my responsibility will be to STIG systems in accordance with JSIG and also deal with some RMF stuff and integrating PKI.

So, I am not really in the design and architect role anymore but I get a commensurate job title with this position that I can update to my resume.

You are correct. I actually took the job from that interview and loved it. I really hated that they laid me off but I guess everything happens for a reason.

So did you tell the company that laid you off it's over? Or are you going to keep that one in the back pocket, just in case?
