Bunrout help

How did you deal with burnout?
I've been in the field for over 5+ years now and im at the point where even studying for something new is a lot of work and I cant seem to do it anymore

I wont go into detail about my job or my current certs but I'm at this weird road now where I don't enjoy the day to day life anymore
The projects for me are also getting easier and I want a challenge even if I'm not ready for it

I'm not the best person to answer this since my job is only half IT. However I have burnt out on the other half of my job which is why I started pursuing IT about 5 years ago.

For me I think I am going to enjoy my second career in IT. For now I am still enjoying dabbling in a little bit of everything. Once I actually switch careers I hope to gain a little more focus and pursue 1 certification per year just to keep my mind active and my skills expanding. I think a big part of burnout is feeling stuck or out of control. Even if you do the same job every day it is your mindset that determines if the day is good or bad. Find something to keep your focus positive.

Been there done that when I feel like there is no challenge left in a job and/or I shudder at the thought of going into work that morning. When that starts to happen, it's a sign to me that I need a change of scenery. If you work in a large enough organization that can be as simple as switching teams/roles into a more challenging position, or to find a new employer in a role that expands/grows my current skillset into something that I want to do next.

Difficult problem and I'm in similar boat!

Changing jobs help but when I change jobs I end up in the same position after the honeymoon period

Try having things to do / look forward to outside work...have a passion project or a group sport or anything so your life is not centered around work

no, that won't solve it
I'm in a role now for almost two years where we get 2-3 tough projects in a year but everything else is so simple that i'm dying of boredom
I have an exam in a few weeks and will get certified again, time to move on
I like the company and work isn't bad but its boring to a degree where I can't do this anymore

I used to be on phone support and fixed every issue within minutes of troubleshooting since i had such a high level of troubleshooting ability now I', stuck in a role I dont enjoy anymore and boss doesn't really care

We have guys working on stuff and they're very happy, meanwhile the stuff they can barely do is something I can handle without issues
Ignorance is bliss, some of these guys dont know much and are happy trying to figure something out when they sound dumb trying to explain it to you meanwhile you already know how to fix it and can't believe how boring this job can be at times

@OP - you don't actually sound burned-out to me. It sounds like you are just bored. Personally, I've never had that problem because at every company and organization that I've worked - there's always a problem that hasn't been tackled because it was too tough.

Have you looked around your company for more challenging problems or projects to solve? That's usually what I've done in the past and it helped my career growth tremendously. It's a great way to add value, be noticed, and get promoted.

If you work at a company that isn't receptive to process improvements or innovation, then it's time to move on.

Exactly, OP is bored not burnt out. Burnt out people aren't bored they are over worked and don't have time to be bored.......

Sounds like OP needs to first identify the real emotion then form a plan of attack.

As others have pointed out, you are bored, not burnt out. Find a new job, perhaps join a service provider where you get to deal with different customer setups.

HOWEVER every job WILL get repetitive (and boring) after a certain period of time no matter what. This is why I suggested having fun and variety of challenging outside of work

Personally, I think my job is pretty boring at the moment. But the way I try and make my boring job interesting is look for ways to improve the current processes my team does things. And by improving them by using something I am interested in learning more about.

Been creating a lot of scripts and little apps for my team to use to speed up how we do things. And trying to learn current applications we use better and finding ways to better use them and get more out of them. If I just did what I was assigned to do I would be bored out of my mind!

Nope, I am burned out already
I work probably 12 hour shifts
We have tons of maintenance work right now and everyone is up late at night
I have been sleeping on average maybe 4-5 hours each night if i'm lucky to fall back asleep after work is done at 5am

Also, I have some good news
I made this thread, and was recently given some project which is good enough to keep me busy for a while
They just gave me a new project which is well up to my skill level and this makes me happy

not leaving anytime soon i guess
