Nowadays,their are many career option other than IT.Some of given below:
1. Business Analyst
2. Clinical Researcher
3. Ethical Hacker
Many more are also avilable..I am working as System Admin having an experience of 5+ yrs in hardware and networking field.Also work as a Career Counsellor.

My girlfriend works as a perfusionist during cardiac surgeries and shes making way more bank than I am. Then again, there was about almost 6 years of schooling involved. I should have went into healthcare tech/applied sciences! -

Healthcare and Investment banker does make tons of money ;-)CISM, CRISC, CGEIT, PMP, PMI-ACP, SEC+, ITIL V3, A-CSM. And Many More. -

That is true. My original context was in an academia environment but you're right about IT is an ongoing education experience.
