I want to take the Security+ exam in April. For the first step, what should I do? Do I need to buy a book? Which book is the best one? How much time do I need to prepare for this test?

Definitely get a study guide for SY0-501 and then know it backwards and forwards. You can supplement the book/pdf with sites like Udemy, cybrary and so forth.
