Just curious while on your journey have to had to ramp up to learn a skill to fill a position. I'm focusing more on procuring a position. I'm noticing that a lot of the position that I am looking for that fall into a certain pay scale are requiring some Java. A lot more so in the past. To be quite honest it has shocked me but I may have to embrace...... I have several irons in the fire right now, but to get to the next pay bracket in my space I think it's going to require additional skills.......
If so when, where and what?

Jon_Cisco Member Posts: 1,772 ■■■■■■■■□□I have not changed careers yet(I am technically a system admin for a small company). Someday I will move into IT full time but I have been building my resume with work, school, certs. I can only assume I will need to train specific skills as I make the transition. In your case I would not think it would be unusual at all to need a few new skills. As to the specifics about Java I really don't know. If you can see both the benefit and the demand I would consider it. With any luck you can get the job and be allowed some time to ramp up on your weak points.Good Luck!

Azt7 Member Posts: 121 ■■■■□□□□□□I'm in Cloud Security and at this point I would say mine is on 2 levels :
Technical : Scripting and overall automation advanced knowledge. I'm picking that up after I finish my CCSP.
Interpersonal : As an advisor / Architect, I need to be very relatable & friendly so customers enjoy our interactions and open up in order for me to address as much risk as possible. My introverted IT dude in his grandmother basement has held me back for a long time.
To correct my interpersonal limitations, I picked a job in Sales / advisory services and it has been 3 years now. Even my coworkers admitted that they like me a lot better now
Certifications : ITIL, MCSA Office 365, MCSE Productivity, AWS CSAA, Azure Architect, CCSK, TOGAF
Studying for : TBD -

Pmorgan2 Member Posts: 116 ■■■■□□□□□□Just moved from server administration to an infosec role. If I want to progress, I believe I'll need to improve:
- Scripting: a little powershell automation here and there is not cutting it anymore. Considering advancing my powershell knowledge and learning Perl.
- Documentation: I need to learn how to think in flexible policy terms. This will likely just come with on the job experience.
- Project Management: really manage time and resources instead of just listing tasks.
