3550 Hardware error. Non-free molecules??

pizzafartpizzafart Member Posts: 97 ■■□□□□□□□□
My 3550 tanks shortly after booting. The only info sent through the console cable is the following. I though this was a pretty cool error message: "Non-free molecules were seen on the notify ring."

whoah!

Any ideas? The device came this way right out of the Cisco box.

Wow, that is probably a rare thing to say for a Cisco router. Cisco.com shows only a couple of results with 'molecules' in it, and are not relevant at all.

The good news is I found something in Google:

The bad news is that everything but the device's output is in an asian language I don't understand anything of. It's about a 3550 though, and it seems to be the same problem. It looks to me like the CPU or CPU interface is defect.

i would think so as well... i have seen 3550 CPU crashes and that one looks to be a fine candidate

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a little nervous about cracking the case open because I didn't see flash or ram installation as part of the 3550 "hardware installation and upgrade guide". There is a section though that says the unit shouldn't be serviced by improper personell. Maybe I'm wimping out? I've heard that people upgrade their stuff all the time, so, what do you think. Should I try it? Any hints?

In the realm of hardware I'm a newb.
I'll also be looking for sites that help with this in the meantime.
