Which one is better in Australia? Updated

ms_visioms_visio Member Posts: 58 ■■□□□□□□□□
Hello

I am a 3rd year (final sem) BSc in IT student at a University in Sydney and i am just about to finish bachelors.

Right now for some reasons i cannot move to full time job. And i am left with 2 options - Honours or doing 1 year Masters in I.T

I am really confused with which one should i opt for considering the full time job prospects once i finish that degree.

And i am doing some voulantary IT stuff right now. Althought have applied for positions at help desk etc (part time).

ANy suggestions please

Thanks in advance[/b]

I'm not quite sure what you want to know?

    A Masters in what exactly?

I'd go get some full time experience because your starting to look like a paper tech. Master can come later.

Thanks for the reply. But due to some reasons i cannot start full time right now. I have only 2 options left Honours of Masters in I.T.

Take a year off and travel :)

Seriously, if your stuck at home and your best option is to keep studying then I'd go for your Masters. Maybe specialise (if you can) in business (MBA). I am not too familiar with how the Uni system works but will be getting into it to soon (when I get home).

I haven't heard about anyone getting jobs because of honours but Masters I have heard of getting consulting gigs - especially at business level.

And to the non educated person on Uni degrees (like me :) ) A Masters sounds a lot better and more impressive.

And this based on my experience in Australia of course.

Also, consider some entry level type certs. MCP, CCNA etc. I'd skip Comptia certs as they don't hold much value in the Aussie IT market but might be usefuly for learning some foundations.

Good luck with whichever you choose.

Did you just list your certs under name? I swear looking at it you hadn't listed certs therefore I mentioned it.

I just think I'm going mad. I have seen your posts before but when I wrote that answer about certs I looked at your signature and saw you had none listed (at least thats what I thought I did).

But yeah, could have been the eye icon_wink.gif
