Chinese copies

Just curious, has anyone got bad experience buying the cheap copied routers/switches from China? Maybe this equipment is ideal for a lab enviroment but not necessarily perfect for a live environment.I'm pretty sure the WIC-IT,WIC-2T i bought came from China as they were new and very cheap, i've had no problems to date.
I would like to buy a couple of 3550's from china but maybe this is just too much of a risk due to there high cost.Anyway opinions please....

a buddy of mine bought a 3550, 2950, & 2 2620's combo package from China. He hasn't had any problems. Bought them dirt cheap.

Ebay... They are listed as new in box and generally have a high shipping fee of $100+ where $20 - 50 is the norm.

Assuming that they (the counterfeiters ) have genuine circuit board layouts and bills of components, the manufacturing should be as good as the normal plants. However, they are still just as illegal as that pair of knockoff jeans or a Roles watch that also uses real gold.. It is not the cost of the parts but the name on the parts. If you are buying the unit as new you would expect a warranty from the maker. Cisco won't fix it for you so what do you do.

well that is for practicing. In the corporations land you are not buying a device, you are in most cases paying for service.

i guess that i got a chinese copy then :D
    i bought a 1601 R and a 2501 from ebay both + shipping cost me < $50.

all i need to practice really...

Are you sure they are copies? All the items like that on the Australian eBay (that are being shipped from China) are very cheap but the shipping is so over the top that you wouldn't really end up saving anything over the cheapest reseller in your local neighbourhood.

Im 100% sure as im now living in Thailand and the thai market is absolutely flooded with copies of everything from China. Its hit and miss quality wise.Generally when i shop i ask if i can get a vat refund, if not i know its a copy.So when i see a new 3550 router still in the box for $1400 with 1 yr warranty ( retail i thinkaround $4000) coming from China do i think its a copy...hrmmm yes icon_smile.gif
    The shippings only $100
If you buy small items like 2500/2600 shipping is an issue but when you go for the bigger purchases you can make big savings.
