Passed 900 but something unusual happened

ph4nt0mph4nt0m Member Posts: 14 ■□□□□□□□□□
I score a perfect 900, but i missed 2 questions (Mac related)...and still got a 900, i think they regard the right to score a question or not, like Cisco does. About the test, know your ports, utilities outputs, work on your troubleshooting skills and security protocols, thats about it. (3-4 Mac questions on my exam)

I had the same thing happen last week. I missed at least 3 but less than 6 and still made a 900. Comptia reserves the right to add a few questions that are not graded to test them for use in future exams. Maybe those are the ones we got wrong?

    Grats!
As was already said, perhaps those were ungraded questions.

As for the 2002 after the Network+ on the careerID, I think maybe that is the revision year of the exam.... Not sure though.

Those perfect scores make me wonder. Congrats by the way.

Likely how someone can score a 'perfect' score. I'm a bit curious myself, but congratulations.

What sort of material did you use to prepare for the exam?

    'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird?

Well, to start with, I have:

A decent amount of hands-on experience.

A B.S. in CIS (Computer Information Systems) with a Minor in Networking.

Taken a CCNA bootcamp and picked up alot of useful information (want more hands on experience before I take the test).

    Taken a Network+ bootcamp.

Taken an A+ bootcamp and read Mike Meyers AIO A+ book(which helped answer 4-5 of the Network+ questions).

Taken an MCSE bootcamp which I am currently studying to take my certifications (a decent amount of overlapping material).

These certifications have expired, but I had NACSE NANS(NACSE Associate Network Specialist) and NSNS (NACSE Senior Network Specialist) certs from college. It covers everything on the Network+ and then some. I took the Network+ cert mainly because it doesn't expire. I figured I will end up with enough certs that need recertifying.

I used the Mike Meyers Network+ book and tests as the main study guide. Looked over the Sybex an Exam Cram book and Exam Cram Practice Questions book. Buy used when you can, or check your local library, which was where i found several of those books. Between those 4 books, that is over 1000 practice questions. Probably around 400 more online questions from different sites, including this one.

I would hope all this would give me a basic understanding of networking.

I would say it is a rather easy test to begin with. Less that 10%, or about 8 of the questions were scenarios where you actually had to troubleshoot.
The rest of the troubleshooting scenarios consisted of "This service isn't working, so which port is blocked?" or "A user can't reach XYZ web site by URL, but can be reached by it's IP address, whats wrong?" The rest of the test was memorization, like maximum UTP cable length, port numbers, OSI model, ect...

I didn't answer every question right. I misses a question each about RAID, PTPP/L2TP, and a troubleshooting question. Some pretty simple questions actually.

I probably over prepared, but i don't plan to pay for a test twice, unless it's from MS 2nd chance offer!

May be you guys were too anxious to read it, but they specifically mention that before the exam, they don't score all the questions, it is just a way for them to test some off them

That's a pretty cool path Kevozz, my 2 cents are:

I'am currently unemployed, so i have a lot of time to EAT my books, i took a year on the Cisco Netacad preparing for my CCNA, i am taking the CCNP Acad now, i read Sybex Net+ 4th Ed, Exam Cram (terrible book by the way), N+ Fast pass, practise questions, Tech notes and TRIED to read the N+ practise questions from Exam Cram... MAN THAT BOOK IS G-A-R-B-A-G-E, repeated questions through all the way...
I think i overstudied for such an exam.

EDIT: Hey PlantWiz, Give me a hand now, MCDST or MCP? MCP right?
