Help with 2501

I just got a 2501 from ebay.
For some reason I cannot connect to the console! I get a blank screen!
I have the rollover cable, the settings are 9600-8n1 for the connection.
The cable works fine with a 2900 switch I have.
The 2501 also has an AUX port, I tried it and the same thing, just a blank screen.
Any ideas before I detonate it?

frankj1247 Member Posts: 111When I tried hooking my 2501 up the first time I got the same thing, so what I did is a disabled the second COM port. No idea if this is the right or wrong way, but it worked for me.

I also tried from a different machine.
Im suspecting that they configured the router so that the console port does not work. The only (rearly) blinking light is next to the AUI port with is a DB15 female port.
I have a stock cisco DB15 Female to DB15 Female cable, which is no good to me!!!
can anybody give me a hand with how to connect to that akward AUI port?
(tryn to find the right adapters/cable I turned the whole IT office upside down )
Thanks

wildfire Member Posts: 654Ok a couple of things oculd have happend here,
1. The router could be DOA, but you said the AUX light flashes which is a sign that it is operating.
2. Somone could have changed the console settings, normally a change in speed shows garbled characters, but still worth trying, try changing the console speeds and settings.
I dont think you can turn the console port off, I could be wrong here, but why would you want to! maybe a corrupt or missing bootrom?Looking for CCIE lab study partnerts, in the UK or Online. -

Try different speeds like wildfire suggested on the console port. Try sending a break sequence with your terminal software as you boot the router.
Yeah, if your cable and communication software work with the 2900 switch, it should work on the 2500 console port.
There always is the possibility the console port went bad.... there should be a way to try the AUX port -- but it may not be with a rollover cable. I think you can do a rollover back-to-back between routers, but not sure about the PC to AUX.
For the AUI Ethernet port you'll need a transceiver -- usually between $5-$15 on eBay. Make sure its the RJ-45 version -- some people are selling coax or fiber versions without being clear about it.
Did the eBay listing contain show version output? Or was it one of those "wonder listings" that said "2501 router as-is" and then pages and pages of conditions in big bold multicolor text?:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
exkor5000 Member Posts: 54 ■■□□□□□□□□I did try different speeds, I still got a blank screen through.
There is a green solid light next to power jack, and a rearly blinking next to the AUI port.
I think that it is just dead!!
The ebay listing did not show a console output, but they state that it was checked by a qualified cisco tech. It is actually a company (Firebuy) and I will be shipping it back for a replacment. They have a contract with some other compnay, something like a small QA office. Those guys check the routers and ship to Firebuy. The company is in the US so i am pretty happy about that
Well you should sort of expanct this to happen for this price, which is $24. Anywayz, they said they are going to give me a replacement, see what happends.
Thanks for all your help
