Just started studying

I just picked up an Exam Prep book, which I will use in conjunction with the Academy. Can anyone shed some light as to whether this exam will be updated any time soon, or your best guess? Are there any physical labs required, or is it simply a multiple-choice linear exam?

Sorry if I seem clueless coming into CCNA, I simply do not know much about the actual exam itself.
