My 640-801 experience

in CCNA & CCENT
Well, after five months of sidetracked study and a month of intense
4 hours a day (sleepless nights of zeros and ones) I am now a CCNA!
I believe my Net+ helped me to get a grasp of the basics in the beginning and I would recommend
anyone with little experience in this field to do it before starting on the CCNA track.
I used the following:
~3x501
~1x2924XL
~Cisco - Intro and ICND (I was initially going to follow the 2 path track but decided
for the 640-801 instead)
~Sybex - 640-801 (really good)
~Cisco prep center
~This site! techexams.net, tech notes and forum (kept me motivated GREAT JOB everyone and THANKS!)
~Testout - 640-801 (Excellent, I did 60 hours of study with this! recommended if you can afford it...
it's expensive, but great if you have no gear at home and no class training)
~Oh, my partners motivation! She kept me on track, Danke Schatz!
The 640-801 examination is difficult in terms of diverse contents, multichoice and drag'n drop, although,
I must say that anyone with a couple of routers and a switch at home practicing routing protocols could do the current LABS without any difficulty.
I can do subnetting in my head but I still wrote the following **** sheet during the initial 15 minute questionnaire,
I was a little nervous so it DID help me to do thing more quickly e.g.
11000000.../26...192...Sub....4...usableHosts..62
11100000.../27...224.............8.......................30
11110000.../28...240...........16.......................14
etc.
The powers of 2
2......32....512
4......64..1024
8....128..2048
16..256..4096
The tables of 4, 8, 16 eg
4..........8.........16
8.........16.........32
12.......24.........48
16.......32.........64
20.......40.........80
So, thats it! make sure to watch the time as it flies...
I'm a little lost as to what is next, time will tell.
Cheers,
Prophet

Danman32 Member Posts: 1,243How did you get to the prep center without a test under your belt?
Or did they do away with that requirement? -
-prophet- Member Posts: 62 ■■□□□□□□□□Hey Danman32, I just signed up to the Cisco website and it let me use Prep Center. As show on their website:
"CCNA Prep Center is a website dedicated to networking professionals working toward completion of the CCNA certification . It is available to anyone with a Cisco.com login"

The Prep Center is still advertised within the Cisco Certification Community (which needs a cisco certification to get into -- has anyone with just INTRO gotten the invite on their score report?). Some of the discussion forums are also "NetPRO" forums (open to anyone with guest level access to Cisco).:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
Danman32 Member Posts: 1,243Ah then they changed it. It used to be you couldn't get access until you have taken a test and got a Cisco ID. You didn't have to pass a test though.
Since I started with the prep center after failing the test I took right after class, I could't say that you could get in before taking your first test.
Glad that it is accessable to everyone. Now I can suggest going over every sim you can find there.
