Team,
I am looking to learn more about Novell. I am currently studying for the Network Plus Test and the Books I have just skim over the material.
I feel I will have a better chnace of passing the Network Plus test if I have a better undering of Novell.

I have done a google search and found a-few pay sites that over some Novell Studyguides but I am looking for some free ones. It's not that I am cheap, but being Laid off at the moment limits my ablity to buy things.

Any help would be great.

Patrick

I wouldn't go crazy over Novell cert study guides just to cover one or two questions on Net+.
Just google for Netware stuff, or go to support.novell.com for tech articles, and www.novell.com/documentation for manuals on their products. But again, don't waste too much time on this.

Thanks, I just really want to do well and Novell is still out there being used so it's a good idea to get the basics down.

    I agree with Danman32, I wouldn't go crazy... icon_wink.gif

"the Books I have just skim over the material", because you don't need to go deep on Novell to pass the exam...

I think Webmaster covers the basics in his Technotes:

There are some shops still using Novell, but pretty much all of them have switched over to pure native IP, so IPX isn't a big issue anymore.

Unless you plan to work with and certify as a Novell Administrator or Engineer (CNA/CNE), I wouldn't worry about getting deep with Novell.

However, you can go onto Novell's documentation site and their support site for supplemental material.

You might want to get an overview of NDS though. You could google for that. You would only need an overview.

Sounds good. I will do a google of NDS. BTW, one of the Help Desk jobs I applyed for wanted me to know Novell Netware 5. This is another reason I wanted to become more firmiler with Novell.

Thanks for all the help guys

Netware 5 is kind of old. If you look on ebay or at a used bookstore, you should be able to find Novell books for a couple of dollars. Maybe even a study guide.

As far as the Network+, the questions for Netware are very basic.

If you want to install and play with it, you can download the ISO image of NW 5.1 with SP8 slipstreamed:

    http://support.novell.com/servlet/filedownload/sec/pub/nw51sp8ei.iso/

It is 670MB though, so be sure you use a high speed internet connection.
The reason Novell can do this is because to get full multi-user function of the product, you have to install the license. Without the license you only get 2 grace logins after which the remaining login attempts act wierd.

They didn't package NW 5.0 that way so I don't think you can download NW 5.0 from Novell any longer.

Studing for 677 somewhat now. Too bad I waited so long for this-- now ExamEssentials is gone and I'm going to have a fun time finding all the test prep I need for new Novell.

A tip, though: if you install NW65 on a box to test, DON'T start out with "basic file server" install. It won't install all of the services (e.g. iFolder, iManage, iPrint) you need to study for the test. Trust me, you'll pull your hair out if you try to set up all this after an inital "Basic" install.
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.
