Okay I posted a while ago about a new job as a Help Desk Specialist earlier this month. Well before I got this job I actually applied with another company for a Desktop Support Technician...well to make a long story the company sent me an email offering me the position but it pays .97 cent less than what I am making now. Here is a part of the email that was sent.....

I am proud to be able to offer you the position of Desktop Technician, with a starting salary of $26,000 per year plus benefits. Â There will be a probationary period of six months, after which time you and I will sit down and evaluate how you are doing and start to plan your future career path here at Gray. I would eventually like to see you move into a Systems Administrator position, administering our Windows, Linux and e-mail servers.

To review our benefits, we offer:

Healthcare - $20.06 per month for individual, $50.74 per month for family

Life Insurance - 140% of your annual salary for the first six months, 240% of your salary after six months

Accidental Death and Dismemberment - Additional funds for injury or accidental death

401K plan, which has historically been 7.5% of annual salary, fully vested after seven years. Â Eligibility starts on either January 1 or July 1, after six months of employment.

Sick days - typically 1 day per work month, or 12 days in a 12 month rolling window. Â All other requests are handled on a case by case basis.

Vacation days - accrue at a rate of 5/12 of a day per month during the first year of employment. Â After that, 10 days per calendar year. Â After five years of employment, 15 days per calendar year.

Holidays - Typically 8 holidays per year: Â New Years Day, Lundi Gras, Mardi Gras, Easter, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Tuition Reimbursement - We will pay for education, which includes job specific training or courses toward a degree at a university.

Conferences - Typically, each IT employee attends one out of town conference per year.

Okay now that you have taken the time out to read the post tell me what you think....

What's your situation right now? Out of school, working for yourself? Family, kids?

It's generally good practice to take and keep the job you're already decided on. It shows that you have committement, and you're dedicated. But this of course also depends on which job you like better, which will give you a brighter future, and etc.

For less than a buck, I wouldnt sweat it.

Currently I am working as a Help Desk Specialist, but I'm trying to get away from the phone thing because I'm not learning anything.

A buck an hour less isn't bad if the opportunities ahead are better than what you have now. Think about the following:
How do your current benefits match against those being offered?
    How about the drive/commute?
    Work hours?
All things are possible, only believe.
