FR encapsulation... is this possible?

Hi all,

I am doing some rack time... playing arround with FR. Now, according to my studies the encapsulation tipe (Cisco or IETF) must be the same on both sides.

now, just to see what happens, I configured one side with Cisco and the other with IETF. To my surprise, it works... I can ping thru the switch. Is this possible??

This is the sh int s0 cmd on one router (the one doing switch):
serial3 is up, line protocol is up
Hardware is CD2430 in sync mode
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 115 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,
     reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY IETF, loopback not set

And one of the routers:
Serial0 is up, line protocol is up
  Hardware is HD64570
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec,
     reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
  Encapsulation FRAME-RELAY, loopback not set

I can ping... I even brought s0 down and up again... no problem.

Am I missing something?

is that the 2 end routers? ie a FRAD switch in the middle, because as of IOS 11.0 they autosense the LMI, so the FRAD will sense IETF on that interface and Cisco on the other.
Looking for CCIE lab study partnerts, in the UK or Online.

    Hi guys,

I will get the running confing tomorrow ( I have rack time all day)

Hello Wildfire! Yes, I am using a 250x as a FR Switch. I do get LMI autosense (I tried to simulate an incorrect config, but It kept working... so it was the autosense).

    Ps: what is FRAD?
