Could someone explain wan links and protocols .
the cisco site is a bit hard to understand.

Using the cisco site is a very good thing, but if you want to learn the basics, you are better off reading the topics in 'study' guides.

WANs and Protocols are a pretty big subject to explain, especially in a forum.
You have alot of different technologies Like HDLC, PPP, ISDN, Frame-Relay ATM etc etc...

For the CCNA Focus your studies on Frame Relay, HDLC and PPP.
