i just got an email concerning the beta testing for a new comptia cert call convergence +. does anyone know about this or plan to take it?

CompTIA Convergence+ beta exam now available

CompTIA announces the release of the CompTIA Convergence+ beta exam on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006. The exam will be available through Pearson VUE and Thomson Prometric sites worldwide.

The purpose of the beta exam is to ensure the final exam is fair and reliably validates the knowledge required of those who work with converged technologies. CompTIA uses the beta exam to help determine the appropriate requirements for certification. Once a targeted number of candidates have taken the exam, the results are analyzed, the best questions are identified and a passing exam score is established.

You will be considered CompTIA Convergence+ certified upon passing the beta exam. Aside from earning an industry recognized credential, the beta exam allows candidates to identify their strengths and weaknesses with regard to the exam content.

The cost of the exam is $75 USD. For more information, please visit certification.comptia.org/convergence/beta_exam.

    I'm thinking about taking it.

I've been working with Asterisk the last few months, and have learned a little bit about voip. It's not so much about getting the certification as I'm just curious what sort of thing is on the exam.

    VoIP, big time.
    18 to 24 months experience.

Betas are always fun because it is fresh territory. no study materials except the objectives. If you have any background in telephone you have a jump start as that comprises 22%. You can't beat the price. The worst part about a beta is the wait.

Cramsession has a good (free) study guide for the TIA CTP exam which is in the same vein. icon_cool.gif

I'm just trying to get feedback on the similiarities of the exams.

The CTP is a tougher exam. the TIA being a telephone standards organization, you can expect that. The CompTIA, I think you will find, comes from a more IT stance.

Apparently they are retiring CompTIA's Convergence+ exam later this year and it will be replaced with the CompTIA CTP+ certification. Apparently the Convergence Technologies Professional certification and Convergence+ are being combined into the same cert.

I found the Convergence+ book interesting but I haven't had the time to try and take the cert yet.
