Unix Certifications?

Does such a thing exist? Best way to learn/practice?

Solaris has a certification track. Not too sure of any others besides the Linux stuff.

You can get certified in AIX from IBM.
SANS also has a Unix cert: "GCUX"

There are plenty of Unix certs. I took a Solaris class a few years back, and it was like Chinese to me. Probably because I was in an advanced class, but still didn't make a lot of sense. If you don't have experience with Unix, you may want to hold off for a while. The Unix people at my work told me it took a long time to get a quality job doing Unix, because most companies don't want to take a chance on someone who just has certs, experience is generally required....practice isn't cheap to come by either, as most Unix equipment is not that cheap....

VMWare is cheap (free!) and Solaris x86 works great on it, I used that for most of my basic UNIX training but have never bothered to certify, my employer is a 90% Wintel shop.

I think this will do it:

For anyone interested in checking out Sun's certs, go to their Solaris Certification Website and take a look at the overview of the paths.

I'd say Solaris is a pretty good deal if you can figure it out. I took my class on S8, so I'm sure the gui has gotten much better by now.
