Hi,
I was just playing with PT 4.0, it's really good. It has some very cool features (one that i really liked and is not available in boson is the ability to add devices in "real-time").
The only thing it doesn't support and I would have liked it to is ISDN. but apart from that is great. has anyone else used it?
It's available to CNAP students/tutors only apparently, but I'm sure it's gonna get around to others as well.

Cheers.

bmauro Member Posts: 307I haven't - but I was going to post a thread on a great app that I learned from this forum. Dynamips - do a search for it, it's an AMAZING tool for anyone working on their CCNA - CCNP - and even CCIE. It's not even a SIM, it actually takes the IOS code and emulates the hardware, so anything you can do with a 3600 - 7200 router, you can do with this.
Best part - it's completely free. The only catch is that you need to have access to Cisco IOS images. I just started playing with it today, but it's one amazing tool. -

Dynagen - The Dynamips Configuration Generator
Dynamips / Dynagen Tutorial
You can check out the latest Dynamips here.... and if it has something you absolutely can't live without, you can run it without Dynagen.
Dynamips Home Page
Support and bugs are here:
Cisco 7200 Simulator Blog
From the tutorial quoting the FAQ:Dynamips runs real Cisco 3620, 3640, or 7200 IOS images. From the Dynamips FAQ: Can you provide a Cisco IOS image for a 7200 to me? No, I am not allowed to distribute any IOS image. You will have to find one by yourself, this should not be a problem if you are a Cisco customer.
Once you've gotten it working -- check out the Dynamips - Lab share thread. After my CCIE Security Lab, I'll probably setup a Dynamips/Dynagen Lab, even though I have the hardware lab (and I'll be talking to the real 3350s). And I've already got the new dual core laptop with 2 gigs of memory so that I can "carry around a bunch of routers.":mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

STP no.
VTP no.
DTP no.
Only RIP and EIGRP routing.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
DirtySouth Member Posts: 314 ■□□□□□□□□□Thats too bad. I wonder why they would chose not to add functionality for those things.

loboernesto Member Posts: 94 ■■□□□□□□□□What I like of it is that you can trace the packets (hence the name) and see what information is on it at every step (how the different headers change and all that).
Just a handy learning program....I consider it just that, a packet tracer... not a sim.
cheers -
bmauro Member Posts: 307loboernesto - ahhhh I thought this was a SIM the whole time. But I could really use a something that shows the step-by-step process of packets.
Thanks a lot -
ccnacertified2000 Member Posts: 27 ■■□□□□□□□□STP no.
VTP no.
DTP no.
Only RIP and EIGRP routing.
Looks like the 4.1 version supports all of that and single area ospf. wonder what else is there.
haven't tried everything new yet. -
Paul Boz Member Posts: 2,620 ■■■■■■■■□□You can use various debug commands for the routing protocols and VTP/STP/DTP commands to get essentially the same information.CCNP | CCIP | CCDP | CCNA, CCDA
