But that's only 2 books listed.... you need to order 3 books from ciscopress.com to get the 50% off deal (good through the end of the year).

There also was an "amazon special" that had a link on the cisco press promotions page.

I'll go out on a limb here and show you guys some serious planning. I'm planning on doing CCNA before the end of the year. Reach NP by the end of 07. Then brace for sitting an IE written towards the end of 08 and nail a lab midway or towards the end of 09. I either own or have full-time access to every piece of equipment I'll need, so everybody get's to hear about the chronicles of someone going from CCNA all the way through icon_eek.gif . I'll be starting to spend more time with my Cisco guys over the next couple of years.
Resistance is futile icon_wink.gif I think it will be a great addition to your arsenal!

But what are you going to be doing between the NP at the end of 07 and the IE written? Studying for the Lab? But then your lab shouldn't be that far out.... hum....

I think ModemHumber started it.... but if you add "Doyle" (vol 1 & 2) for the CCNP... and maybe Halabli and Clark/Hamilton too -- then you may have hit "critical mass" for the IE written.... Toss in some security, and a touch of wireless, and you've covered the current written blueprint.

Standard "old NP" study puts you about 70-80% for the IE Written.... which if you remember 100% could be enough for a written pass :D

I'm thinking we might be able to squeeze you into the CCIE Class of 2008. :D

mikej412 - thanks for the heads up on 50% off book sale at Cisco press. Going to take advantage of that one as the only CCIE book I have ordered so far is Routing TCP/IP VOL 1 second edition.

Greetings to all the CCIE candidates in this forum. I am new to this forum. This is my first post. I was referred here by another thread located at MC MCSE forums.
I to am going for the CCIE R&S in late 2007. I just started my preparation for the CCIE and I have all the books I need including my own home CCIE lab which consists of:

    4 3640 routers with 12.4(10a) IOS for OSPFv3 IPv6 configs
    2 3550 24 port switches with EMI L3 IOS
    1 3524 inline power 24 port switch
    2 2610 routers with 12.3(9) IOS
    1 2621XM router <---> Console Server
1 2521 Router for Frame relay
    1 3750 48port PoE Switch running L2 image

I think I have what I need for my CCIE lab prep.

I wish all the people in this CCIE thread who are seriously pursuing CCIE good luck and happy studys!!!

    Welcome Waynoo icon_cool.gif

    Check out Dynamips/Dynagen

For learning and practice, nothing beats having a home lab -- but when I start the R&S workbooks, I'm going to try a couple of Dynamip/Dynagen servers with multiple network cards (and my real 3550s). That may work as well as my existing hardware, but with less setup time between labs or workbooks. I've already got a core 2 laptop with 2 gigs of memory, and that runs the InternetworkExpert Lab routers just fine.

Well I was planning on leaving this a bit longer but I just ordered my first round of CCIE Security books (finished the CCSP on friday so I guess I'll try and hit it while that's fresh in my mind). Ready? No...but life is short.
Anyway, throwing my hat into the ring.
We responded to the Year 2000 issue with "Y2K" solutions...isn't this the kind of thinking that got us into trouble in the first place?

    HI Guys,

Yes add me to the list of lambs to the slaughter......

My NP runs out mid Apr and have been studying the Security track on and off for a little while now but with the v2 written exam coming out in April thats more than enough incentive to get the v1 passed before then end of the month!

Anyway - study mode on and need to get that exam booked soon!

as for the lab - not sure if im gonna buy the kit (£££) or make do with rack rental (probably a bit of both)

Are you going to go for the IE before the NP?

    I'll throw my hat in...

Still got x3 CCNPs todo, BCMSN is on Tuesday, averaging one every 2 weeks or so.

For a home lab, any disadvantage to using dynamips for the routers?

    Cheers

I edited the initial post of this topic to include a list of members pursuing the CCIE in 2007. Several of them haven't been active for a while, and I probably forgot a couple of candidates who didn't reply to this topic (hint hint ;)).

I've also split off some replies regarding dynamips/equipment and another off-topic sub-discussion to separate topics in this forum (Need some opinions... and For a home lab, any disadvantage to using dynamips?

Guilty but still here. I ended up finishing up the MCSE as I needed it more immediately for work. I have the Cisco Press CCIE Security study guide sitting on my study table and I keep looking at it like a puppy at a bone he can't have...yet....One more MCP in 10 days to get the security specialisation on the MCSE and then it's FINALLY back to Cisco...it's a bad bad sign that I'm looking forward to it so much, no escaping the geek inside :P

    Finally,

Made up my mind and have my lab date booked, on 17 October 2007, Brussels. Though I am still looking forward to take my lab exam in Sydney.

    Thanks and best regards.

I decided to skip the CCNP and go for the CCIE...

Hopefully I will take the written test before the end of the year and attempt the lab next year!

I have past experience with CCNP tests, I passed 2 of the 4 tests awhile back(5 years ago) so I think I can manage to pass the CCIE without completing the CCNP.
    Gimme gimme gimme

I am a CCNA and will skip the CCNP because the curriculum contains a lot of extra knowledge I do not need for the R&S exam. I was hasitating what I should do and thought of the possibility of passing the NP first, but then a couple of guys from groupstudy told me to give the R&S a shot. The only think that bothers me right now is that I don't have any experience in production networks because I am only 16 now but I will probably start working for a local system integrator and will have access to switches. I am thinking of passing the written v3 around the mid of August when I hope I will have studied all the topics from the blueprint.

Good luck to everyone persuing the CCIE!

Good luck with that young man. You have a lot of reading ahead of you. Try to get some equipment to practice on at home. Drop me a PM and I will help you with a reading list.
