But hey! Don't just take our word for it!

Cisco (as opposed to Simon) says:

"Neither buying a Cisco product nor having Cisco Partner or Authorized Reseller level access enables you to download software open/query cases with the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Your company needs to have either an appropriate Cisco Service Maintenance Contract or other contract with Cisco as a direct partner for you to access these functions and resources."

so how does cisco "officially" feel about receiving an ios via resale such as ebay ??? or some other venue.
there are tons of used router vendors.

just about every ccie got it that way .....

i've spoken to jim courage (cisco's main licensing guy) at penn plaza
at we were told we are entitled to "in train updates" without continuing
    a service contract.
cisco is also making a concerted effort to unbundle and seperate hardware and software these days.

I can understand Cisco allowing "in train" updates without renewing your contract - makes perfect business sense.

Although most people I see here get their routers from ebay (or other used router vendor as you pointed out) and then are upset because they can't get the "latest" IOS.

I think they have a different policy on those sorts of things, now the project I work on, we can request any IOS from the Cisco guy, under the condition that it is only used in our lab/pilot model. If that goes production, then we have to purchase a license for said software.
Looking for CCIE lab study partnerts, in the UK or Online.
