Problem while booting switch 2950

Hi every body,
Iam getting an error [all my fast ethernet going down] when I switched on the switch. Upto loading of Flash it's OK.
Iam getting the message
"Done initializing flashfs."
"POST: System Board Test : Passed"
At this line the fast ethernet ports are blink together then cutting of the connection to the NIC. After this happens Iam getting the following message and switch move to the prompt.


POST: Ethernet Controller Test : Passed
ASIC Initialization Passed

POST: FRONT-END LOOPBACK TEST : Passed

When I Check the ROM-Mode i can see the directory listing as follows:-

can you tell us a little bit about the switch? did you just purchase it or have you been configuring it your self.

from the post i see it passed post. but i also noticed vlan.dat and quite a few configs.

possibly could be multiple vlans preventing port to port communication or port security has disabled a port due to violation. It could be a range of things. post us some more info...

I read your replay,as per your request, the additional information are:-
I am working in training institute as a faculty and we buy this switch as second hand.

Well I take it since you buy these switches from other people, chances are they left their config on them.

If the privledged mode is protected by an enable secret/password, or even a TACACS+ Server (which most are) then you'll need to do the pw recovery method on the switch to get into rom, then you got to delete vlan.dat and the configs, personally i'd delete everything but the IOS file which is c2950-i6q4l2-mz[1].121-22.EA4.bin

Heres how;
1. Unplug the power cable

2. Hold down the mode button while replugging the power cable
release the mode button after the STAT LED light goes out
then wait till it boots to rom.

3. Type flash_init over the console

4. Type load_helper

5. Type Dir flash:
//Do this to find out the file names of stuff you want to delete.

6. Type delete flash:file.name

Just repeat the delete command on files you dont want to keep, config's and vlan.dat, if your curious about what is in those configs,
just rename them random names and you can upload them later to a workstation via-TFTP by copy flash:file.name tftp

After everything is deleted EXCEPT "c2950-i6q4l2-mz[1].121-22.EA4.bin" then

10. type boot
//this boots the switch to ios found in flash

Once it boots it should take you to initial setup. just type no and your on your merry way... Enjoy

As you said I delete the files [config's & vlan], but still i have the problem what i wrote on my first post [POST: System Board Test : Passed

sulfikkartm, that is what your suppose to be seeing, vlan1 will go down because it has no ip address, as well as its administratively down by default out of the box.

You just need to configure it to whatever you'd use the switch for. You wont see a config in flash unless you configure the router and do a write mem, or copy run start, personally wr me is easier and dosent ask for confirmation lol... If your new to cisco routers/switches then I guess you can use the setup mode if you like, but if you purchased the switch for learning on, then I guess now is a good time to start lol.... enjoy
