DESGN test soon - updated !

romainromain Member Posts: 222
Hi all,

I'm going to apply for DESGN exam soon, probably next friday (12/15) or a little bit later. I studied this exam one month and used the Knowledge Net video classes and Diane Teare's book. I found this last one very complete and really appreciated the 900 pages focus. I'd recommend it to anyone who attempt to this test. I'm now testing my skills on Transcender engine and search for any last minute advices. If anyone here have some, I'd like to hear about.

Thanks in advance.

    Good Luck!

The Teare book is great..... but if you want to review somthing "smaller" this upcoming week -- Top-Down Network Design, 2nd Edition is also a good book to read for this exam. But Teare will do it for you if you don't have time to get Top-Down.

The Reference Sheet PDF file on the Cisco Press Flash Card CDRom was great for review. They may be selling those PDF files as downloads now on the CiscoPress website.

Thanks for your reply Mike ;)

I'll try to focus on VoIP part which could be weak area for me and then have a look to Cisco Press flash cards if I got enough time before "the day". I going to ciscopress website now ! :P

I just looked at the DP page on the cisco.com website and to get my DP all I need is my ARCH exam to pass (along with BSCI and BCMSN).

Do you suggest I do my DA first then DP? Or is it ok to do my DP. What book would you recommend for my ARCH exam?

    Thank you!!

CCDP Self-Study: Designing Cisco Network Architectures (ARCH) is the only book for the ARCH exam. I also used the Cisco Press Flash Cards for the CCDA/CCDP. That has those reference sheets I like so much!

Some of my DA/DP comments are in this thread..... (and Running Bear was inside for almost 8 weeks recovering -- she's 100% and back out with her 2 sisters in the barn -- I took her out for a visit after all the stitches were out and her back half was fuzzy again -- and she didn't want to come back inside).

I'd start with the DA.... but you can really study them "back-to-back." The focus of the exams seems different, but the design stuff for both exams is complementary.

Good look with this one, It has probably changed, but it was a very concept orientated exam rather than specifics, all about best practices.

Maske sure you know the PDIOO model, and understand the design proccess. IF you understand the basic building blocks of the Enterprise model then the rest falls in place.

Just the echo what Mike has said, there is a big overlap between DP and DA, I did them with a long break inbetween and ended up going back to the Tiare DA book for a revision.

I also used this section on the docCd to focus, as the books cover the basic concepts, but they do make some pre-asumptions about your prior knowledge, eg it quickly explains multicast as a revision assuming you have multicast down to a tea.

sorry to ruin your day modemhumper!

    "CCDP Prerequisites
    Valid CCNA and CCDA"

The ARCH exam follows on a lot from CCDA anyway, and 2 exams get you two certifications so its not all bad.

Passed this morning with 987... Incredible score, still do not realize...

I got many drag and drop and two testlets on voice and security mainly.
Some questions were really tricky and I'd say useless for a networker.

It's now time for holidays and then go back to challenge bgp in january ;)
