I'm trying to convert my XP laptop from fat32 to ntfs but when I type 'convert c: /fs:ntfs' and hit enter the next line states: 'Enter current volume label for drive c:' What do I enter in order to convert this drive? Thanks in advance.

MrD Member Posts: 441Just hit enter if you want a blank label. Or you can name it if you wish. Either way, no biggie.

motherwolf Member Posts: 117I tried hitting enter and I got this: 'An incorrect volume label was entered for this drive' I also tried typing in 'XPpro' and got the same message.

MrD Member Posts: 441Hmmm using convert must be different than format then. Have you tried putting in the current volume label?

motherwolf Member Posts: 117OK, I entered in the current volume label and I got this: 'Convert cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Convert may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)' What does forcing a dismount on the volume mean?
