I have been in the restaurant business for many years. I even owned a couple. I set up a WiFi in one of my restaurants and have always tinkered with others' computers.
Where I currently work, it was found out that I "know a lot" about computers, now everyone wants me to "fix" their computers. I even take care of the restaurant's computer issues (KVS, PC-POS, ISP [In Store Processor], Connectivity, etc). I finally have decided to go for my A+ Certification. I am not looking to break the bank, I just want to help my fellow townsmen check his/her email, get on the 'net, set of their home networks, and other "simple" stuff.
If I take the A+ and possibly the Net+, would this be a great opportunity to start a "fix-it" shop? [Just a side note, one brother of mine is MSCE and the other is fix/break technician.]
Thank you in advance for the replies. (This is my first post.)

kf4tew Member Posts: 3 ■□□□□□□□□□Thanks for the reply... I currently live in Central Pa. Maybe after I gain some experience from the local fit-it shop where I currently have taken on a non-paying position, I would be able to leave my current low paying job and get an IT job in Philly... Again thanks for the reply...

NinjaBoy Member Posts: 968Good luck, just one note if you do want to become a ASC, 50% of your IT staff need to have at least 1 Comptia cert (you didn't mention if your brothers had any).
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the reply. -
NinjaBoy Member Posts: 968Since it'll only be you, once you get your A+ & Network+, if you also do Comptia's Customer Service course you can then apply for the ASC Gold Member ( http://asc.comptia.org/joinnow.aspx ) that would be your business.
For personal certification you could apply for CompTIA's IT Professional (IT Pro) Membership ( http://itpro.comptia.org/ ).
Also once you get your A+ & Network+ you can take advantage of ETA-i rollover to CST or CNST certification, with a free one years membership to the ETA-I, see here: http://www.studyexam4less.com/cnstrollover.asp.
Another extra cert for you and your new business. Hope this helps.
