exam question

when I was doing my 290 last week, one guy was doing the 270, while reviewing his questions he got a splash screen saying something like "sorry the time allowed is expired"

The people from the test center couldn't get to remove that splash screen and they told the guy he has failed his exam because he didn't finish on time. The guy then just left the test center without any print out stating he failed his exam.

Is this true ? if you dont finish on time you automatically fail the exam ? I have serious doubt about this...

if you dont finish in time you will still be scored on the questions that you did answer so it could be a pass or a fail still.
