Is Boson Bugging? Creating VLANS on 2950

Since i do not have a 2950 in my homelab, i am doomed to use boson netsim : (
My lammle book shows creating vlans from config mode:
(config) vlan 4
(config-vlan) name sales

But in netsim you have to do it in privledged mode

#vlan database
vlan# vlan 4 names sales

Is this is netsime bug?It won't let me type vlan 4 in config mode at all

Thanks
i herd u leik mudkips lol

I think both methods work on 2950's, maybe just not the sim.

No -- your version just doesn't support the "new way."

The vlan database from privileged mode is the "old way"

Config mode is the new way.

You should know both ways, but it looks like you'll only be able to practice the old way with your version of NetSim.

Seriously? You don't need to be in privleged mode to get into vlan config???

You do have to be in privilaged exec mode for the vlan database command.
You can also do it from global config mode (See above commands)

Very true, but that will be changing real soon. I've seen some very secret betas of some not yet released netsims that are nothing short of amazing. Especially when you see diagnostics and visualization mechanisms that you can't even get on real equipment.

yea, i guess i should have read up on the updated exam requirments before i bought a 1924 icon_mad.gif

on another note, will the exam sim care if i do it the privledged mode way? Or do i have to do it the global config way?

We can't tell you what we've seen on the exam (you agree to the Cisco Non-Disclosure when you take the exam) -- but we can HINT strongly that you should know both ways.

If it doesn't tell you to do it one way or another -- pick your favorite way. If that doesn't work -- then do it the other way. If neither way works.... double check the question and your command mode(s).
