Got myself a new job!

strauchrstrauchr Member Posts: 528 ■■■□□□□□□□
Well its been just over 3 months since returning home from an awesome time in London and I have had a nice break enjoying the great weather that we have down under. (well on the south west coast anyway :) )

So after knocking back a few short term contracts, low paid offerings and support work I finally got offered practically my dream IT job. This after working my ass off through some crap job or low paying jobs so I feel its deserved.

Anyway its a Senior Systems Engineering role for a rapidly growing consulting company. Mostly project type work from concept to implementation. Its paying quite a good salary (permanent position not contract) with bonuses, laptop, mobile phone and adsl.

Anyway I wished to share my joy with this forums as I have shared many rough times here and you guys have cheered me up or helped through them.

And I want this to post to help some of the people here who I know are in the same position I was a while ago.

I'll update this post once I start (19th of Feb) and let you all know hows it going.

    Well Done. Nice result!

Now ask for some time off as you have been contracting for so long without any leave icon_twisted.gif

I'm about to stop contracting after 4 years. Doing my head in not having sick pay, paid days off and most importantly, no real say in how they should do things.

Waiting to hear back from a permanent job myself this afternoon. It's going to be a bit weird working permanently again and giving that commitment to the company again. Contracting, it's just turn up each day and do your thing, go home, get paid.

    Good Luck
    Kam.

    Congrats strauchr! :D

I am curious, how did you get the job? Through an agency? Job posting? Friends or family?

Well done. It was funny reading your post, because I am in London Studying having a break from Oz...the complete opposite.

An agency. Every IT job I have ever had has been through an agency. This is my 6th job.

Yeah I'm from Perth as well. I prefer to keep the name of the company quiet for now until I get to know their work culture a bit better first. I can say they are a fairly new start up consultancy firm that are rapidly expanding.

Hope your enjoying London, its easy to miss the warm weather and relaxed lifestyle of Perth but London is a world of its own and theres much fun to be had. :D

OK, well its my second day here so a bit hard to tell how well it is going to go. So far some training on SMS 2003 and Exchange 2007 is being shoved in my face (which is a good thing) and some big migration type project being looked at.

They also have a very good project management structure which is enforced which makes everyones job a lot easier.

So far so good but we'll see how long it takes to break me icon_lol.gif

Sounds like they're not wasting any time with you. Working on SMS and Exchange 2007 already. Sounds great! Hopefully everything continues to go good for you. Take care.

    Congrats.

Sounds like you landed a good one. I started working (full time/ permanent) for a consultant - managed service provider two weeks ago. Unfortunately there is not a good project management scheme in place. In fact they just released the VP of IT. I've gotten no training of any sort, just got thrown into the mix. On the plus side my fellow techs have be great to work with and happy to let me sit in when I can to learn from them.

    Best of luck with it.
