Broadband Problem

Hi there

I have a Orange internet connection with a 6mb line using a Speedtouch USB modem

Windows XP Service pack 2

I recently reinstalled the O/S and setup the internet manually

Everything was going well or so I thought.

I am randomly becoming disconnected from the internet when I try and reconnect the first time it says the ppp link has been terminated.

I rechecked the connection settings and applied the suggested PPP and LCP checks as stated on Microsofts help section still no joy.

I have checked the Modems idle setting and everything is as it should be.

So then I decided to perform physical checks I have replaced the ADSL filter I still have the same problem.

The Line is functioning ok and the telephone is working.

The Modem Lights are on and I am able to connect everything seems to be ok

I have established the following conclusions

Possible modem incompatibility with a 6mb line = swap for a router
Problem with ISP's end

I have contacted Orange and they suggested I check the idle setting on the modem I was like wtf? this is the basics lol

They are going to resend me a broadband cd so I can setup the internet without entering the settings manually.

Anyone had similar problems or any ideas?

Thanks

Ally

    and did you try.................

    7. Right-click the connection, and then click Properties.
    8. Click the Security tab.
    9. Under Security options, click Allow unsecured password in the Validate my identity as follows box, and then click OK.
    10. Double-click the connection, and then click Dial to verify that you can establish a dial-up connection.

    Its A) a speedtouch and B) a USB modem.

Had problems with these modems myself.

Brought a ethernet router and gone are the days of disconnections.

(Sorry but I dont rate Speedtouch USB very highly only ever caused problems)

Could it be a speed related issue?

I mean the speedtouch has been working fine when the line was 2mb

Now it's 6mb it keeps dropping

    latest drivers???

What model is the speedtouch modem??

I would maybe suggest testing a proper router if you have a 8mb line...

Done some googling and found this:
