XP won't detect Sony Cybershot

I've tried damn near everything I can think of and I can't get XP to detect the camera. The camera itself flips over to USB mode, but Windows won't do anything. Any ideas? I've updated Sonys USB drivers, search for errors with the USB devices in device manager...

    Your USB ports working?

Update the USB driver if a USB 2.0 driver is out there

Try a reinstalltion of the O/S and see if this resolves the problem

    :o

-> nuglobe, if I remember correctly, cybershot require the Sony Software for photo transfer, no? If that is not the case, try to uninstall the camera driver entirely, restart your computer, and reinstall the driver...lucky for you, you probably wont need to reinstall your OS for this.

    good luck~

Also ensure a different USB device is recognized in the port/s i.e. usb mouse/keyboard/usb memory stick

You got any partitions / mapped drives etc that maybe using the same drive letter as the camera?

control panel - admin tools - computer management

see if the camera is in there and change the drive letter if it is to something that is free

    I tried 3 different cables.

I can only find a USB driver off of sony's site.. not even a driver specific to the camera.

My USB is fine, I have my mouse and keyboard in them, and I regularly use a USB midi controler.

have you tried different USB ports? please try different front or back usb port where you HAVE NEVER CONNECTED any devices before. I have experienced that one of my front usb port was HARD-MAPPED by one of the usb devices (i believe it was the usb printer). The port will not be available for other usb devices except the usb printer only itself.

try different port and reinstall the sony cybershoot application. you will be fine.
