None, net+ is an introduction to networking.

Probably not much for a NET+ only. Most people I know if they have this cert are in the process of gaining other certs and use this to show a 'general' understandings of networks, but I cannot recall ever reading someone advertising for an employee who has a NET+.

So, Keep working on gaining some network knowledge. Otherwise, possibly a helpdesk situation??

    'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird?

The majority of the time you won't find that fabulous job just with an A+ and Network+. All those exams really teach you is fundamentals. My first job which introduced me to Active Directory, Group Policy, Dns, Helpdesk, etc. was from having A+ and Network+ and no applicable experience. It's possible to get those types of jobs with determination and luck. Just make sure you use every resource available to you. Like Plantwiz said, keep striving forward and go for more certifications. In the meantime, you'll most likely get a helpdesk job. Just make sure you keep looking!

The stickies in this forum will help get you started. Don't forget about networking (talk to your friends and family and let them know you're looking and maybe they know someone), talk to your college if you go to college, newspapers, online job sites, etc... Don't give up and something good will eventually come out of it.

Good luck on your job search!

You might want to look into a Certificate / Diploma / Degree in IT as well. This is more important than just certification alone for IT.

However, it's quite surprising the number of people in IT Support without these basic understandings and huge gaps in their actual knowledge.

Sure A+ is helpdesk/junior pc support and Net+ is helpdesk/junior networking at a push (preferrably ccna for junior networking) but if I were the interviewer, those certs would tell a story against someone without them. Having them shows you know that block of knowledge, you have no gaps in that area of knowledge and most important, it shows a willingness to obtain a career in the field in that your are willing to study off your own back to move forward.

That would be a big selling point for me as well if I were in a hiring position.

I got a systems administrator job with only a net+ and half way through college. It was like $17/hr. Jump started some really nice pay checks in the years to come.

If you know what you are doing you should be able to get a low end Desktop Support or helpdesk job with A+/Network+. If you are lucky you may be able to land a Network Tech job but don't expect a salary more than $10-$15/hr. (of course there are exceptions). I got my first IT job as an IT Support Tech. making about $12/hr. with only A+, Net+, and Linux+ and the certs helped a lot especially Linux+.

It is good to have for Helpdesk jobs so you have a "basic" understanding of Networks, but you won't get many or any results putting Network+ in a job search... icon_wink.gif

Also remember If you get A+ and Network+ it also counts towards MCSA, which is one of the reasons I did Network+

Morbote, it may depend on where you are located but most importantly it depends on your burning desire to improve yourself. In Oct of 2005 with just the Hardware part of A+ I got a $10 Tech Support job in a call ctr, 4 months later with a complete A+ I went through the interview process and landed a $15 Field Tech job, 5 months later I landed a $17 (contractor) job in a fortune 500 companyas a Network Operations Ctr Specialist (NOC). I have been here 7 months and they are about to hire me directly and in the meantime they gave me a $2 raise. I know this maybe a modest rise, but I also know that $19 is really more than the market value for my skill set;and I know that I could still be making $10 were it not for my desire and passion to learn and improve myself.
So while your Network+ may not land you "a dream job" it sure can land you interviews, and as you have been told here, do not limit your efforts, post your resume in a all the major job sites. And in no distant time you will surely have a job. However in the meantime and while you eventually land the job the effort to improve yourself should be continous, I want to assume that you are not in IT just for the money(bcos it may not come fast in the front end) go for more certs, get started with a degree program if possible and in the near future your challenge will be which job to choose.

    Good Luck
