It must be
9600 bps
8 data bits
no parity
1 stop bits
no Flow Control -
zenlakin Member Posts: 104That is exactly what I have. All I get is a blank hyperterminal screen and nothing at all happens when I try to type anything in. No prompt, no letters, no anything.

georgemc Member Posts: 429I'm not sure, but try using a straight through cable vice the rollover cable. I kinda remember having the same problem when I got a new 5500 years ago (circa 199. Instead of the standard blue/black console cable, they came with a yellow straight through ethernet cable to use with the console.
Let me know if it works.WGU BS: Business - Information Technology Management

georgemc Member Posts: 429Yes that's correct. If your console cable is one of the newer all-in-one deals you can use another rj45 to rj45 rollover cable and connect it to your current cable with a gender bender (inline coupler). Otherwise, it's a straight through cable into the little gray db9 to rj45(f) connector.WGU BS: Business - Information Technology Management

zenlakin Member Posts: 104I am currently using the rj-45 to db9 connector right now. I know that the cable is good because I just tested it on our 6500 series switches here at my work. But for some reason I don't get anything on the 5509. I don't even get the startup stuff from the switch if I have hyperterminal running when I turn the switch on.

georgemc Member Posts: 429The supervisors in the 5000/5500 series were originally made by another company before Cisco bought them, so there consoles were non-cisco standard(i.e, requires a straight thru cable). Sup in a 6500 series have Cisco standard console ports and thus use a rollover cable.
Replace the rollover cable that you're using with a standard ethernet rj45 cable.WGU BS: Business - Information Technology Management
