    Looks right to me.

Your subnetting on the 4th octet (255.255.255.24icon_cool.gif giving you blocks of 8.

    8*30 = 240.

192.168.254.241 - 192.168.254.246 is usable for IP addresses

    Hope this helps!

The answer is correct in the question

    /29 = 255.255.255.248
32 networks 8 hosts per subnet
    subnets being
192.168.254.240 is the subnet that .246 would fall into

    The bit pattern would be

    11110110

If the 5th next bit was used after the ones I've put in bold then that would put it into the .248 subnet you see what I mean?

Indeed it does. Thanks for the replies! I find that my basic understanding of subnetting is fairly solid, but in practice I fall short. More practice needed. Thanks again.

    All it is, is practice.

I guarantee you as soon as you get this down it will be something you never forget and are able to do almost without thinking about it!

    Good luck on the CCNA!
