Which test should I do next after 70-219

Hi All,

Excellent forums on this site with excellent posters!

I have taken 70-216, 217 and will finish 219 next week in that order. To continue the logical process based on the 2000 track exam content I am thinking I take 296 then 292.

I heard the 296 exam was more logical (kinda like the 219 test) and the 292 exam was similar with the 216, just with different content.

Any suggestions?

292 and 296 are upgrade exams. You won't want to take 292 until you get your MCSA in Windows 2000 and you won't take 296 until you get your MCSE in Windows 2000. 292 will upgrade your MCSA 2000 to 2003 and 296 will upgrade your MCSE 2000 to 2003.

Are you an MCSE on Windows 2000? Your profile only lists NT 4.0.

You may want to check the MCP site for exam requirements. You can not take the 292 exam until you have completed the MCSA or MCSE on Windows 2000. And you can not take the 296 exam until you are an MCSE on Windows 2000. I also thought you had to have completed the MCSA on Windows 2003, before taking the 296 exam, but I do not see that listed on the exam page.

Once I pass 70-219 hopefully next week I will have obtained my MCSE 2000. For the 2000 track, I have taken the core 4, 219 and Nt 4 electives.

Using the certification planner on MS site is burdensome at best. After looking at it, I am under the assumption that I will need 292 and 296 to upgrade to MCSE 2003 after obtaining MCSE 2000. Is this correct?

With what I read earlier, passing 292 will give you the MCSA 2003, and then passing 296 will give you the MCSE 2003.

I am on the same track, but my last exam is 216. I was planning on taking it in May, but I have been side tracked again and I am starting to work on the Sec+ instead.

What NT 4.0 electives are you planning on using? I have Exchange 5.5 and TCP/IP.

I am using TCP IP and IIS 4 for my electives, but could also use security+

Not sure you know or not, there is a form on the CompTia site once you finish the Sec+ test that notifies MS to put it on your transcript. If you have A+, Network+ or Server+ you can let MS know as well. This way Sec+ will count for you as an elective.

I am thinking once I pass 219, will write 292 then 296. I generally write in order. Was wondering if I should this time around. Since they are upgrade exams, I thought I would ask.

I agree, go with 292... They just reprint the book. U can find them online for $45 while bookstore sell for $70

Thanks! I have passed 70-219 for MCSE 2K. I will start 70-292 as I hear the content for this test is carried over to 296 (approx 90%).

Nice to know I still have a year to write both upgrade exams, but I want to finish in 4 months to give me a break before studying for the next server os from MS.

Congrats on passing the 70-219, and congrats on getting your MCSE 2000. Good luck on the 70-292 and 70-296 exams, I hear they're real monsters.

Congrats on the pass. Because the exams are going to retire, I put the Sec+ back on the self and am back to the 216 books again.

Which exams do you have left to take? 216 is tough with the amount of content area covered, but expands upon the 70-210 and 70-216. If you have NT 4 MCSE, a good month of studying and you should be fine. Keep booking with Vue or Prometric to pressure yourself into studying hard and for extra motivation.

216 is the only exam I have left. I'm using my NT 4.0 electives. I passed 210 in 2000, 215 in 2002, and 217 & 219 in 2003. I keep getting side tracked from 216.

216 is much easier (reading wise) than 217 or 219 IMHO. 216 to me like an upgraded NT4 workstation and server exam with material obviouisly related to Windows 2000. Almost half the material was covered in NT4 with material upgrades. The kicker is the amount of topic areas, Wins, DNS, protocols, RAS, DHCP etc.

I am sure you can knock it off soon. Just need to have a power surge (energy wise not in computer terms) and you will close the books for Windows 2000.
