SUSE 9 & 10 Can't Recognize Hard Disk

Hi guys, am having a challenge installing Suse or Fedora on a newlp purchased HP Compaq nx7300 laptop.
The high disk probing reports that no hard disk was found. The hard disk is a Toshiba MK8034GSX 80GB.
Could you guys help out there, i need to install it as soon as possible.

I would boot to a live cd and see if it recognizes the hard drive and see what it recognizes it as. I would recommend Knoppix.

try turning the cd-drive off and then back on
