Paul Boz Member Posts: 2,620 ■■■■■■■■□□In short, in asynchronous transmission the two nodes communicating do not negotiate the transmission before it takes place. The receiving device has to determine the clocking. There's a "synch" signal embedded within the data stream which lets the receiving end know the timing of the data.
Synchronous is of course the opposite - The clocking is negotiated before transmission. To my understanding, synchronous transmission is usually only important if the medium isn't reliable.CCNP | CCIP | CCDP | CCNA, CCDA
