My current position is Account Administrator in the Pittsburgh Area
Basically i create and administrate user accounts in AD and other 3rd party software my company uses. Manage public folders in exchange, and other rights and permissions stuff. This was a hop and a skip from helpdesk.
I knew my stuff before CCNA but i knew that CCNA would open the door for me. Well mabye it still will. But so far, i can't find ANYTHING for Network Administrator/Analyst. Getting extremely discouraged. i get calls everyday for helpdesk and desktop support though.
Also, i love where i work, i just hate what i do. I've spoken to our Net Support Specialist, and i would be promoted to Net Admin. But that would take like another 1 1/2 years probably, and i'm not waiting around that long.
RANT!!!!!!

shednik Member Posts: 2,005Well it's better then your previous role there aqua, you could be dealing with everyone like I still have to everyday....I'd rather build accounts then deal with a users printers not loading in Citrix, or someones outlook settings not sticking. Just keep looking and apply to that place I showed you, if you're still there when I leave then you can complain!

royal Member Posts: 3,352 ■■■■□□□□□□Many people try for a long time to try to break into IT. Keep your current job, even if it's for another year. Prove to your superiors that you are willing to go the extra leap, work hard, and go study more Cisco or Microsoft stuff, whichever you want to break into more. Setup meetings with him/her monthly to go over some topics that you have been studying. Show him/her that you have been learning a lot on your own, and good things will happen. Hard work pays off. Of course, always keeping an eye out for other jobs isn't a bad thing. Good luck with your current job and/or search, and let us know how it goes. Good luck, and don't give up!“For success, attitude is equally as important as ability.” - Harry F. Banks

Paul Boz Member Posts: 2,620 ■■■■■■■■□□It's probably because just having a CCNA really doesn't qualify you as a network admin to many employers. CCNPs are too common for employers to settle for a CCNA. I'm not saying that the CCNA is a worthless or bad certification, because that'd be ludicrous, but if you really want to make yourself marketable you need more than that.CCNP | CCIP | CCDP | CCNA, CCDA
CCNA Security | GSEC |GCFW | GCIH | GCIA

kafifi13 Member Posts: 259It seems like a CCNA is a Bachelors degree now. It's great to have but employers really don't go nuts unless someone has a masters. Or in this case a CCNP. That's the way i'm looking at it and that's the road I plan on taking. I'm in the boat. I like my company alot. Just hate what i'm doing right now. I'd like to get into something more technical but the IT people don't think i can do it. So now i'm out to prove them wrong.

Nice to see people in the Pittsburgh Area. Shout out to the 412 and all my homies on the NorthSide!!!
I feel ya on the IT recruiters calling everyday for Help Desk jobs. But, you just gotta stick it out man. Another year ain't long to wait for a job you love and more money. Learn as much as you can...maybe they'll promote you even further in a year and a 1/2.
Anyways, good luck!Working on Linux+ -

Cucumber Member Posts: 192This is why I am going for the CCNP. The CCNA is great and takes a lot of effort to get it, but some technologies being used at many networks, like VoIP and Wireless Networks are beyond the scope of the CCNA. Also, there are way too many kids coming out of collegue having the CCNA already.I hate pandas

Aquabat [banned] Inactive Imported Users Posts: 299yea, i understand. I guess i will try to stick it out. I mean, i'm the only CCNA in my company. Also, i really don't wanna wait around, they alrady know that i have network expertise, i tihnk it's more of just politics. I'm also afraid that if i stick it out i will become really dumb. I have all of this knowledge right now and i want to stay that way, i don't want to waste it. I guess i will continue studying on my own and keep an eye out there for something else. I guess it's just the idea of not doing what i love to do.
