I found some used routers that's sold as a package and wondering if it's a good deal. I need it to get practical with routers and also pass my CCNA. I have to pass CCNA as it's an unfinished business, so I could use some routers.
I've seen many CCNA's-to-be buy 2600 routers, so I'm not sure if this is good enough (oh and I don't have a lot of cash to just experiment) Please help! Here is the package:
Cost: US$295
2 Cisco 2501 Router 16D/16F
1 Cisco 2502 Router 8D/8F
2 Back to Back HD60 Cable
2 Ethernet Transceiver
1 WS-C1924-A Switch
3 Console Kit

If you search ebay you can get 3 26xx series routers and maybe a 2924 switch for that price, so no, it's not that great a deal."You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!" - Rocky -
Daniel333 Member Posts: 2,077 ■■■■■■□□□□I wouldn't. The switch is a paperweight at best and the routers don't do VLAN trunking.
Just keep in mind to really play with ACLs, paths, routing protocols, trunking and split horizon, you are going to need 3 switches and 3 routers. There are plenty of threads here you can search through on specific models. But figure on about $500 for the set.
Although you can get away with buying a little at a time, which is what I had to do.
Bottom line, bad deal. Where'd ya see that?-Daniel -

I guess theres only one way to find out for sure and thats to try it out! -
