found my old CCNA books

browsing through my IT library, and I found my Cisco Press CCNA books from one of my first networking classes back in 2003. I have both the INTRO and ICND books. Date says 2003 on both. Are these books outdated, or still pretty valid for study use? If so, for how much longer. CCNA is on my list of certs but not for a while.

thanks in advance for your help!

Depending on the books... there was an update to the CDs (that may be downloadable - check the cisco press web site and search for the ISBN#).

The books should still be good for the CCNA for a while.... other than the normal rumors, there hasn't been an announced change to the CCNA. When there is a change announced, you'll probably have 5-6 months to take the existing exam.

If you're a network academy student, there's the CCNA v3.1 online which is updated but not as much information as the Cisco Press book.
    On to MCSA 2003.

As long as the books track to the 640-801 exam, (or the 640-811 and 640-821 exams), they'll be what you need. Books get updated, information is re-organized and typos and mistakes are corrected, but the essential content won't change unless the exam, itself, is updated. For example, the Sybex CCNA book by Todd Lammle has undergone three new releases for the 640-801 exam alone, (4th Edition, 5th Edition, and Deluxe Edition,) and it's still pretty much the same book, but organized in a different way and most of the errata included.

Check what exam the books are for, make sure they're for the current exam(s). Just make sure you get another study source, like another book or the online CNAP training Cisco provides, and you should have everything you need.
