What else should I get?

rpoggerpogge Member Posts: 8 ■□□□□□□□□□
I have purchased the following for my CCNA Lab thus far:

2 x 2610 w/ 1 WIC-1T each.
1 x 2509

1 x 2950
1 x 2924

I have about 200$ left to spend.
What else would you all recomend to cover all topics on CCNA, and then be able to build upon for CCNP... $200 or less.

Thanks,
Ryan

You've got 3 routers so you might as well get 3 switches. You're going to have just about the same set-up I do. I've got a 2612, 2509, 2610, and 2521(FR switch) for my routers. And then I've got a 2950, 2924, and 2912 for my switches. With 3 switches you'll be able to play with loops a lot easier. My suggestion would be to grab a 2912 or 2924,l whichever you can find cheaper.

Even though i haven't built my lab just yet i would have suggested the same thing based on Info that Mark gave me before. You'll at least be able to play with STP.

    thanks for the advice guys.
I just picked up another 2924.

I also ordered 2 x 1 foot serial cables as mark did (read your lab thread)
I have a handfull of rollover cables from work.
I have 1 serial transciever from work.

What else can you think of cablewise that I will need? Probably another serial transciver eh ?
Oh and the 2509 is the RJ version, It uses individual rollover cables, so no need for an octopus cable.

    I still have $100 left

    Should I go for a 2521 for FR ?

Oh forgot to add I also have a PIX 501 ... not that that has anythign to do with CCNA.

Just make sure you've got all the cables you need. You're going to need more dte/dce cables with that frame switch because it's got 4 serial ports.

Did you mean Ethernet Transceiver -- the DB15 to RJ-45 convert for the AUI port on the 2509?

I'd hold off on the beer until you're sure you have all the adapters, accessories, and cables -- it seems like there's always something you forget to buy.

How many dte/dce do I need total for my setup do you think?
I haven't even begun to figure out how to physicaly hook everything together yet.

I'd normally help answer this question but I'm hung over and it';s hurting my head thinking numbers and set-ups. I'm gonna have to take a step back on this oen bud. I'm sure mike or someone else will answer. icon_wink.gif

Dont mean to add on the subject, but can we have a "Lab suggestions" post. It would be really helpful as this post is for viewers like myself.

Go look in the FAQ. There is a lab suggestion section right in there. You could do a search and find a ton in this forum as well.

If you don't mind my asking, how were you able to get a 2521 for only 40 dollars??

DM, check on ebay. Darby is sending me one pretty cheap as well and just to make sure he wasn't scheming (crazy networkers) I double-checked on ebay. This was 2 days ago and I saw them for around 40 up to 75 I believe...

Actually, go grab it right now... http://search.ebay.com/cisco-2521_W0QQfromZR40

    $35 Buy it Now. :D

    Thanks Mark.

Unfortunately, it is hard to find international friendly auctions on Ebay. This dude will only accept a wire transfer, which the costs for that alone will equal or end up even higher than the router itself, plus shipping will probably be at least 50 dollars.

    No thanks.

    Appreciate the post though Mark.
